Paypal has upgraded their iPhone app recently with two additional features, one of which, is Check capture. With check capture, a customer simply transfers check to their account for free using a photo of the check taken from their iPhone. The technology is created by BankServ. The reason Ebay's online payment service provides this feature is, of course, to serve customers, so they don't need to go to bank each time receiving a check, simply taking a photo then it's done. According Anuj Nayar, Paypal's global communication director:
"Mobile check capture eliminates consumers’ need to visit their bank every time they receive a check, helping consumers save time and energy".
It's also told you need to keep the photo of the check for 15 days before throwing it away.
